Built by the Grace Brothers in the 1920s as a showpiece of their successful retail business, The Grace Hotel has been beautifully restored to its former glory, making it one of Sydney’s most prominent historical landmarks, it is a fine example of Neo-Gothic architecture with a contrasting Art Deco interior featuring a unique blend of old-world charm with modern comfort.
HIGHLIGHTS/SCOPE OF WORKS:
The scope of work consists generally of remedial repairs to the building’s façade replacing the failing lintels installed in the 90’s.
HBS Inspected all facades to obtain:
- Confirmation of the locations, types and numbers of existing terracotta units installed c.1997. Locations of deteriorating existing original terracotta units now needing replacement. Dimensions for new replacement units. Conditions and dimensions of openings into which new replacement units would be installed.
- Prepared dimensioned drawings of all types of new replacement units.
- Collaborated with the heritage conservation architect and structural engineer and Heritage Council, to design and document both the new replacement units and their new fixing systems.
- Undertaken trial installation of the new replacement units.
- Sought tenders for the production of new replacement glazed terracotta units from overseas manufacturers.
- After evaluation of tenders, proceeded to manufacture and supply all new replacement units.
